CRAPS

Back to games help

1) Description and objective

Craps is of African American origin. Their colorful slang is still used in the game and dice are often still called "African Dominoes". Through time the table layout has changed a lot and different variations are still used all over the world. We use the most popular layout: The Vegas Craps Layout.

If there is one area in a casino where you'll find many cheering and shouting players, it's definitely around the craps table. Craps is probably the world's fastest gambling game and certainly one of the most popular. Some believe that craps is very difficult to learn, but the only truly complicated aspect of craps is the variety of different bets.

2) How to play

The basics of craps are very simple. You place your bets on the table layout, the "shooter" throws the dice. The result is evaluated. The only catch here, and this is the big difference between craps and for example roulette or Sic Bo, is that you should evaluate every bet area separately. Not all bet areas are settled with the same throw of the dice. In other words, it is possible that after a throw you win a certain bet, you lose another bet and yet another bet remains unsettled.

The main game has 2 phases. The very first throw of the dice is called the come-out roll. If after this throw the sum of the dice is equal to 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12 the game ends. In the other case the "point" is set (equal to the sum of the dice) and the game continues to phase 2. In phase 2 the "shooter" tries to hit the point by throwing the same sum before a seven is thrown.

  • Select a chip value on the edge of the table
  • Start placing your bets by putting the chips on the bet areas. If the point is unset, you can place your bets on the "Pass" and "Don't Pass" line. The "Come" and "Don't Come" Bets are unavailable. If however the point is set, the "Come" and "Don't Come" bets can be used while the "Pass" and "Don't Pass" lines are blocked.
  • Click "Start" to throw the dice (come out roll).
  • All bets are evaluated. It is possible that certain bets remain undecided.
  • You can place extra bets or remove certain undecided bets.
  • Click "Start" to throw the dice again. You can repeat throwing the dice till the point is hit or a seven is rolled. When one of these actions occurs, the next roll will be a "come out" roll again.

3) Specific game rules

Betting Areas

Pass Line
You can place your bets on the Pass Line if there is no point set. If on the come-out roll a seven or eleven is thrown, the Pass line wins and pays out 1 to 1. If on the come-out roll a two, three or twelve is thrown, the Pass line loses. In all other cases, the bet remains undecided. If after the come out roll a point is set, you can place Pass Line Odds up to three times the value of the Pass Line. Pass Line Odds pay out true odds. (in other words the payout depends on the value of the point)

Don't Pass Line
You can place your bets on the Don't Pass Line if there is no point set. If on the come-out roll a two or three is thrown, the Don't Pass line wins and pays 1 to 1. (Twelve is barred: if twelve is thrown, the bet remains undecided!) If on the come-out roll a seven or eleven is thrown, the Don't Pass line loses. In all other cases, the bet remains undecided. If after the come out roll a point is set, you can place Don't Pass Line Odds up to three times the value of the Don't Pass Line. Don't Pass Line Odds pay out true odds. (in other words the payout depends on the value of the point)

Big 6 & Big 8
You can place your bets on Big 6 or Big 8 at any time regardless of the point value. If a six is thrown before a seven, Big 6 wins and pays out 1 to 1. If an eight is thrown before a seven, Big 8 wins and pays out 1 to 1. If a seven is thrown before a six or an eight, both Big 6 and Big 8 lose. In all other cases, the bet remains undecided.

Field Bet
You can place your bets on the Field Bet area at any time regardless of the point value. The field bet is a one-roll bet which means that after the first next roll de bet is settled. If the shooter throws a two, three, four, nine, ten, eleven or twelve the Field Bet wins. In all other cases, the Field Bet loses. If a two or a twelve is thrown the payout is 2 to 1, in the other cases the payout is 1 to 1.

Placing Odds
Once a point is set you can add odds to the Pass and Don't Pass line. Once a Come or Don't Come bet has moved to the proper come-point, you can add odds to the bet. The amount of the Odds Bet is limited to three times the value of the original bet. The Odds bet pays out true odds and depends on the value of the point for the Pass and Don't Pass line, or on the value of the come-point which has been hit:
